SANTA ROSA — On July 15th just before 2 PM, officers were sent out to investigate a report of a man brandishing a golf club and chasing another man on a bicycle.
At the scene, they discovered a parked car with a damaged windshield, as well as a bicycle in the street, a backpack, and various other personal items littered about. They were soon approached by a family member of the victim who said he was inside with a serious head injury.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where his condition has since been listed as critical.
Investigation determined that the victim had suspect had gotten into an argument near the victim’s home. The suspect chased the victim with a golf club but was unable to catch him.
Shortly thereafter, the suspect saw the victim coming toward him on a bicycle and swung the club. The victim’s bicycle collided with a parked car and the victim struck the windshield.
He was able to get home on his own.
The suspect, subsequently identified as 48-year-old Roderick Anthony Bell of Santa Rosa, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and battery with serious bodily injury.
