SANTA ROSA — On August 18th just before 7 AM, 38-year-old Nery Israel Estrada Margos arrived at Santa Rosa PD to confess that he’d assaulted his girlfriend and that she may be dead.
Officers responded to Margos’ home address, where he lived with 42-year-old Veronica Cabrera Ramirez, and forced entry after receiving no response upon knocking.
Inside, they found Ramirez dead.
Investigators pieced together the timeline in which victim and suspect had been living together approximately 9 months, even though Margos had previously been arrested on August 2nd for a domestic violence incident involving Ramirez — one which had warranted an Emergency Protective Order against Margos.
The two continued to live together even before the order expired.
Based on evidence and statements collected, investigators believe that Margos killed Ramirez sometime in the early morning hours of August 18th after an argument.
Margos has since been formally arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail on charges of murder.
