John Graves
Officers Hernandez and Kasparian were on patrol August 21st when they spotted a Jeep speeding eastbound at Belmont and 99. The Jeep, seemingly trying to avoid the officers, turned without signaling into the parking lot of a gas station.
Officers Kasparian and Hernandez drove to the Jeep and approached the driver to address the traffic violations and enquire as to why the driver was parked at the closed gas station.
The driver, 27-year-old John Graves, did not have a license. A records search further revealed Graves was on court probation and as such, open to a search and seizure to which he complied.
As a result of the search, a .45 caliber Taurus handgun was found in a backpack located toward the rear of the Jeep. “The handgun had an extended, high capacity, magazine. In close proximity, 5 unspent .45 caliber bullets were located” (Fresno Police Department).
Graves was read his Miranda Rights before telling officers the gun and bullets were found at a park. He reported being assaulted and robbed in the past and decided to keep the gun for protection. Graves was booked into the Fresno County Jail on several weapons related crimes.
