CALPELLA // On August 11th just before 11:30 PM, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on the 6100 block of North State Street to investigate a burglary in progress at a convenience store.
At the scene, officers discovered the front glass doors shattered, but nobody inside. They did, however, discover that beer and other merchandise had been stolen. Additionally, the owner of the store was able to provide officers with a description of the suspect after having watched the burglary via an online live-feed surveillance system.
While the crime scene was being processed, an alert citizen contacted officers about a suspicious person, who appeared to be extremely intoxicated, walking down the road about 1/4 mile south. As it so happened, the description provided matched that of the suspect captured on the store’s surveillance cameras.
Deputies followed up and found 38-year-old Manuel Gonzalez “walking alongside the road near the intersection of North State Street and Agnes Lane.” Though he was taken into custody for public intoxication, he is also charged with second-degree burglary and possession of stolen property after having been found to be in possession of items stolen from the convenience store.
A secondary review of the surveillance footage positively identified Gonzalez as the culprit.
He is now housed at the Mendocino County Jail on $15,000 bond.
