Angel Morelos
FRESNO — Saturday evening on August 5, 2017, Fresno Police were alerted to shots fired at 4711 East Kings Canyon, the location of Stereo & DJ Outlet/Mari’s Jewelry store.
The Shot-Spotter notification was backed by a dispatch call to Fresno PD reporting a shooting victim. 22-year-old Christopher Leon was provided with first aid and CPR by officers and EMS personnel before being transported to Community Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries shortly after arriving.
According to information obtained by homicide investigators, the suspects posed as customers and asked to look at some jewelry before making a break for the door with the jewelry in hand.
Leon, the store owner’s son, caught up to one of the burglars just as he made it outside the business door. The physical altercation turned deadly when the suspect engaged his weapon and fired, leaving Mr. Leon to fight a losing battle for his life as the suspects fled the area in a vehicle.
The vehicle was soon located and two juveniles were arrested in connection with the murder/robbery investigation.
On Wednesday, August 23, 2017, Fresno Police Department’s Tactical Team contacted a female whom they thought might be hiding suspected shooter 18-year-old Angel Morelos in her apartment.
Following their instinct that she was being deceitful when she claimed to not having seen the suspected shooter for two weeks, the Tac Team made a visit to her apartment where they found the 18-year-old Morelos.
“All identified suspects are now in custody,” reported the Fresno Police Department, “however, there is one subject that remains outstanding that has yet to be identified.”
