HUMBOLDT COUNTY // On September 6th just before 4 PM, a Correctional Deputy conducting inmate checks in a “dormitory-style housing unit . . . noticed multiple inmates looking into the bathroom area.”
Inmate Francisco Mendoza had assaulted a fellow inmate with a sharpened spork and continued the attack as the deputy arrived.
Mendoza was ordered to stop and did not, to which the deputy responded by deploying his taser. At that point, Mendoza stopped the attack and was “cuffed by responding deputies.”
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office reports that the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.
Mendoza is now charged with assault with a deadly weapon, assault by force likely to produce great bodily injury, and violation of probation.
