SALINAS // On September 11th just before midnight, officers arrived on the 1800 block of North main to investigate a report of a person brandishing a gun at two others. A red Ford Mustang was also reportedly described.
Officers were subsequently also dispatched to investigate a vehicle collision involving none other than said red Mustang and a 16-year-old on a bicycle “in the area of Delancey Drive and Sutton Way.”
When police saw the car speeding through the parking lot at Natividad Medical Center, a traffic stop was conducted and the driver — identified as 28-year-old Lorenzo Rubio — was arrested.
Rubio had apparently argued with the juvenile victim in a business parking lot on the 1800 block of North Main, after which Rubio tried to chase the victim in his car but lost him.
After driving around for several minutes, Rubio saw the victim riding his bicycle near the intersection of Delancey and Sutton, drove up onto the sidewalk, and struck him.
The victim was reportedly treated and released at the scene. Rubio, meanwhile, was booked at the Monterey County Jail for “attempted murder, threats, and fleeing the scene of the collision.”
