Jesus Arreola
POPLAR –Just after 10 pm on Saturday, a man and his family arrived at the Poplar Market in the 19200 block of Avenue 144. While he and his son went inside, his wife remained in the running car.
Suddenly, someone jumped into the driver’s side of the 2004 Cadillac Escalade and began to back the car up.
The female jumped out of the car. Her son came out and opened the driver’s side door in an unsuccessful attempt to stop the carjacker.
The suspect sped away in the stolen car. Soon after deputies spotted the car speeding by and a pursuit ensued that went into the city of Lindsay.
In that town, the suspect struck two Highway Patrol cars before hitting a tree in an orchard near Foothill and Valencia Streets.
Although he then ran from the car, 27-year-old Tulare resident Jesus Arreola was soon arrested with the assistance of a CHP aircraft.
Arreola is in custody with bail set at $100,000. He is charged with carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading, and failure to comply with lawful orders.
