SALINAS // During an unrelated welfare check on Caoba Way, Salinas PD officers were flagged down by a concerned citizen who’d just witnessed a shooting nearby.
Officers investigated, finding blood and other evidence indicating that a shooting had indeed taken place. Area hospitals were alerted and, quickly thereafter, SPD received word of a shooting victim at Natividad Medical Center.
The victim had apparently been sitting in his vehicle in front of his house when an unknown assailant — described as a Hispanic male of 25-27, 5′ 10-11″ tall, and wearing dark clothing — walked up and shot him in the face and arm, then fled on foot southbound along Rider Avenue.
The shooting is being investigated as gang-related.
SPD reports in a press release that the victim’s condition is listed as stable.
