LAGUNA HILLS – Orange County Sheriff Officers responding to a wellness check at 2:40 p.m. yesterday, to the 25000 block of Via Lomas in Laguna Hills, found Yahaira Ocegueda Boykins (23) dead from stab wounds in her residence at 25795 Via Lomas #189, in Laguna Hills.
Lt. Fred Thompson announced at the tragic scene that there is a death investigation, neighbors are being interviewed, and a “person of interest” has been detained.
Grief-stricken family members and neighbors identified the detainee as Jerel Boykins, a U.S. Marine and the victim’s husband. Officers were told that the mother of three young boys had asked her husband to move out.
A domestic violence case was filed six days ago along with a restraining order. Boykin was questioned by detectives last night.
A neighbor and close friend, Zitlali Korrea, reported to CBS that Boykin had said he would kill Yahaira. Court records show domestic violence.
A ‘GoFundMe” page has been gathering support for the deceased mother’s funeral expenses.
The investigation is ongoing. Detectives are urging that additional information be provided by calling (714) 747-7000.
