Man tries to steal car, finds out it belongs to a Sheriff’s Department employee

SONORA // On October 1st just before 2 PM, police were alerted to the detainment of a subject by the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department.
Officers responded to find 42-year-old Antonio Torres had been caught tampering with a personal vehicle belonging to an employee of the Sheriff’s Department. Police estimate that Torres had done over $400 in damage to the car and, after questioning, determined he’d been trying to steal it.
Torres was arrested and booked on charges of “attempted vehicle theft, felony vandalism, and tampering with a vehicle.”
He is housed at the Tuolumne County Jail on $15,000 bond.
