Sutter Creek man arrested for burgling vehicle back in August
SUTTER CREEK // Sutter Creek Police have made an arrest in connection to a vehicle burglary which occurred earlier this year, on August 4th.
Two citizens reported that several items had been stolen from their vehicle while it was parked behind a local store. Many of the items were later discovered hidden on the store’s roof, though many were still missing or had been destroyed and cast aside. The total value of the stolen property was estimated at over $1,000.
During the investigation, Sutter creek Police obtained surveillance footage and were able to identify a suspect — Mario Cortez, to whom they had even spoken earlier that morning. It soon became clear that Cortez had fled the area.
On October 12th, police learned that Cortez had returned. He was arrested at a residence in Amador City and taken into custody for theft and vandalism.
In total, he stands charged with grand theft, theft with priors, and vandalism.
