LEMOORE // On October 7th at around 7 PM, police were called upon to conduct a welfare check on the 800 block of Vine Street. Officers also learned that the suspect in the incident had since fled the scene with the victim’s phone.
The suspect, as it turned out, was the victim’s ex-girlfriend. She also happened to return to the scene while officers were still present. A traffic stop was attempted but unsuccessful, at which point a pursuit began and continued “along several surface roads ultimately traveling on Highway 198 and returning to the original location of the call.”
When the pursuit was terminated, the suspect got out of the car and tried to run — all the while armed with a large butcher knife. She ran toward the victim, brandishing the knife and ignoring numerous commands to drop it.
An electronic device and K-9 also proved ineffective. Fearing for the victim’s life, one of the officers discharged his firearm and the suspect was wounded. She is being treated at an area hospital, as is an officer who was also injured during the ordeal.
At this time, the investigation is ongoing.
