San Jose Police Arrest Vandalism Suspect in School Shooting

SAN JOSE – The San Jose Police Department has announced the arrest of an individual sought in the shooting at the Booksin Elementary School in San Jose. The suspect, identified by police as 21-year-old Nicholas O’Connor, was arrested by Assault Investigators with the San Jose Police Department.

According to Officer Gina Tepoorten with the San Jose Police Department, “The suspect was booked into Santa Clara County Jail for possessing a firearm in a school zone, discharging a firearm in a school zone, discharging a firearm at an uninhabited building and vandalism.”

The incident began early Tuesday morning around 3:45 as San Jose Police responded to a call of a male suspect shooting a gun in the area of the school located at 1590 Dry Creek Road. Tepoorten said, “Officers set-up a perimeter around the school and conducted a search of the area.” A suspect was not found at the scene when officers first arrived. However, it was clear that someone had been there and was shooting at the school’s surveillance system.

Gathering evidence at the scene, police located O’Connor at his residence in San Jose and arrested him for the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact the San Jose Police Department’s Assaults Unit at 408-277-4161.
