SAN PEDRO — On January 14, 2015, as then-75-year-old George Matsumoto was at home with his wife, a family member requested a welfare check on the couple, as they had not been heard from for several days.
Arriving authorities discovered 72-year-old Mary Matsumoto in her bed with three gunshot wounds to her head, deceased. Mr. Matsumoto was also in the house but was described as “unresponsive.”
The husband, now a suspect, was charged with second-degree murder. On November 1 of this year, he was found guilty of the charge after pleading guilty, and this week, he received a sentence of 19 years to life in prison.
During the trial, it came out that Mr. Matsumoto suspected that his wife was having an affair, although no evidence was provided that this was the case.
