A little after 5 PM on December 17th, Isaiah McGuire was in the area of A and 6th Street in Madera when gunshots were heard. Isaiah was shot. He was driven and dropped off at Madera Community Hospital. It was not immediately known who dropped him off. He was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno but did not survive his injuries.
Several people witnessed the shooting but at the time none were willing to come forward to speak with police. Investigators worked nonstop, collecting evidence and reviewing available surveillance footage. On December 19th, Anthony Salvatierra, 21, was arrested for murdering his friend.
Isaiah and Salavatierra are members of the same gang. They were meeting with other members of their gang in an alley when Salvatierra accidentally shot Isaiah while aiming for someone else.
“He was not the intended target, but was in the line of fire with a gang member who does not understand gun safety, manipulation, anything like that, and struck actually on his friends,” stated Lt. Gino Chiaramonte of the Madera Police Department.
Salvatierra was part of the unknown group of people who drove Isaiah to the hospital and dropped him off “like he was garbage,” grieved Isaiah’s mother.
Police say Salvatierra had his bags packed when he was arrested, seemingly preparing to leave town. Community support and tips assisted in his arrest. He is charged with murder, attempted murder and committing an act for the benefit of a street gang.
This is Madera’s 3rd homicide of the year.
