PLEASANTON — A man was arrested two days after he allegedly ransacked a home, and then ran over a police officer who was responding to a report of a burglary in progress.

A homeowner called 911 to report a burglary occurring on the 700 block of Montevino Drive at approximately 5:30 p.m. on January 3. The incident was recorded on video by a surveillance camera.

When officers arrived outside the home, they saw a man inside a gray Honda Accord, who immediately drove away. A car matching the same description was spotted by police a short time later near the intersection of Montevino Drive and Crellin Road.

An officer exited his patrol car and directed the driver to stop, but instead of complying the suspect drove directly at the officer and hit him.
The officer sustained serious injuries, and was taken to nearby local to receive medical treatment, before being released to recover at home.

Investigators later obtained a warrant to search the suspected perpetrator’s residence in Hayward, and located guns, ammunition, stolen property, and suspected methamphetamine.

The suspect, 27-year-old Christian A. Ayala, was arrested on January 5 at 12:19 p.m., and booked at Santa Rita Jail, where’s he’s being held in lieu of $305,000 bail.

Ayala is charged with assault with a deadly weapon, resisting a police officer, addict in possession of a firearm, possession of prohibited ammunition, receiving stolen property, and possession of a controlled substance.
