NAPA // Police have arrested 28-year-old Nicholas Zazzarino for attempted murder after connecting him to two shootings which occurred on the same day.
On January 17th just before 8:30 AM, Napa PD officers arrived at the Starbucks on Lincoln Avenue after receiving word of the first shooting, where they discovered a 23-year-old man who’d been shot in the abdomen. He was treated at the scene and promptly transported by AMR to a local hospital for further emergency treatment.
Witnesses at the scene were able to provide officers with a description of both the possible suspect and his vehicle.
Later that day, a second shooting was reported on the 3300 block of MacBeth Street just before 10 AM. Responding officers discovered a 66-year-old man who’d been shot in the upper chest. He, too, was treated at the scene and quickly taken to hospital for further treatment.
As officers were responding to the second report, dispatch received another call from a citizen who said he was following an unknown suspect after catching him entering his home on the 3200 block of Baywood Lane. Additional officers responded and there they met Zazzarino, who complied with their commands and was taken into custody without incident.
Police detectives determined during preliminary investigation that, in the second shooting, the victim had been driving away from his home when he spotted Zazzarino behaving suspiciously near a neighbor’s fence. When he stopped to ask what was going on, Zazzarino shot him once in the chest and fled on foot. Police believe that was when Zazzarino went to the home on Baywood Lane.
Both victims have undergone emergency surgery and continue to recover in hospital.
Zazzarino is due for booking at the Napa County Department of Corrections on two counts of attempted murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury.
