FREMONT // Police are investigating an armed home invasion robbery after two disguised intruders showed up to a house on Montrose Avenue and assaulted one of its residents on January 17th.
At around 12:15 AM, Fremont PD dispatch received multiple reports of a woman pounding on doors and screaming for help. Patrol officers and, at the request of dispatch, Fremont Fire were on the scene and staging within 2 minutes, at which point they began to piece together the chain of events.
According to reports, two women were at home on the 43300 block of Montrose Avenue when one heard a noise from out back. Believing it to be her dog, she got up to let him outside, which was when she was confronted by two hooded men in dark clothing, one of whom was armed with a baseball bat and the other a handgun. When the woman tried to go outside to get her dog, the suspects began physically assaulting her.
The second woman fled on foot and reportedly heard a single gunshot from the home. She then began knocking on neighbors’ doors and calling for help. The two suspects — described only as adult men of possible Asian or Vietnamese descent — had fled the scene by the time police arrived. How they fled is unclear, as no vehicle was seen.
When police searched the home, they discovered a large-scale marijuana grow operation occupying three of the bedrooms. Officers also found a bullet hole in a vehicle parked across the street, corroborating the report that a shot had been fired. The woman who’d been assaulted was taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries and has since been released.
As the night went on, Crimes Against Persons Detectives and Southern Alameda County Major Crimes Task Force agents were called upon to head the investigation. They arrived with a search warrant that same night, after which crime scene investigators entered the home to collect evidence. While the incident has been classified as a robbery, no information has been made available as to what was taken.
At this time, the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with potentially relevant information is encouraged to contact the Fremont PD Investigative Unit at 510-790-6900. Anonymous tips can also be submitted via text message by texting TIP FREMONTPD, followed by your message, to 888-777.
