RANCHO CUCAMONGA — Deputy Joseph Silva of the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department attempted to stop Angel Herrera (19) from Upland when the white PT cruiser he was driving ran through multiple stop signs on January 22, 2018, at 12:26 a.m. The unsuccessful traffic stop at Beryl and Pepper Streets turned into a vehicle pursuit with Ontario PD’s Airship overhead.
Deputy Silva announced, “The pursuit led deputies through several city and residential streets exceeding speeds of over 80 mph. The suspect vehicle drove on the wrong side of the road during the pursuit and showed no regard for the public’s safety.”
When the PT cruiser slammed into a light pole at Archibald Ave. and 9th Street, the suspect fled and ran into a nearby dirt field. Detective Silva continued, “Deputies apprehended Angel Herrera after a short foot pursuit and took him into custody. Two other occupants of the suspect vehicle were detained. Through investigation, deputies learned the two occupants of the vehicle plead multiple times with Herrera to let them out of the vehicle, but he refused.”
Herrera’s arrest landed him in West Valley Detention Center with $105,000 bail for evading a peace officer, kidnapping, and driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol.
