SAN DIEGO — On Wednesday afternoon, patrolling detectives spotted a vehicle that they recognized as one identified on a “be on the lookout” call earlier. They further noticed that the driver matched the description of an armed and dangerous wanted felony suspect.
Once the vehicle entered Highway 76, authorities turned their lights and siren on and the suspect sped off.
The chase ensued for two miles, travelling at 80 mph, until the driver crashed into a North County Transit bus.
23-year-old Cesar Lopez was trapped in his vehicle, which then caught fire. The fire department put the fire out and, after 45 minutes, Lopez was out of the car and soon at the hospital being treated for his injuries.
Lopez had loaded magazines meth and drug paraphernalia on his person. He also had stolen property in his car. He was on parole for felonious theft. His charges are pending.
