Lake County Sheriff investigating officer-involved shooting in Nice

NICE // The Lake County District Attorney’s Office and Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit are investigating an officer-involved shooting after an armed suspect was killed on the morning of February 5th.
At about 11:40 AM, Sheriff’s Deputies had arrived on the 6000 block of Marin Street to investigate a report of a person behaving suspiciously in the area. Around 15 minutes later, the Sheriff’s Office learned of a second report, this one involving a man brandishing a firearm on the 4000 block of Nice Road.
Shortly thereafter, a responding deputy encountered an armed suspect in the area of Burpee and Lakeview Drive. While details remain under wraps due to the ongoing investigation, shots were reportedly fired and the suspect died at the scene as a result of his injuries, according to the Sheriff’s Department. His identity is being withheld pending notification of family.
The deputy, while not injured, has been placed on paid administrative leave, as is protocol.
