SOUTH SACRAMENTO // The Sheriff’s Department has filed charges against 19-year-old Steven Rejon for the June 2017 murder of Demoria Ells-Rivers after identifying him as the primary suspect.
Rejon, who was already in custody in connection to an unrelated case, is alleged to have shot Ells-Rivers and left him for dead in an orchard in the area of Twin Cities Road, just east of River Road.
Shortly after 9 AM on June 8th, 2017, he was discovered by a field worker making his morning rounds.
When Ells-River was found to be unresponsive, Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the scene, at which point it discovered that he had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body. Walnut Grove Fire was also called to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
Subsequent investigation eventually linked Rejon to the shooting, and he is currently being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail.
Despite the break, the investigation remains active. Anyone with information that may be relevant to the case is strongly encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Department at (916) 874 – 5115.
