Furnishing Alcohol to Minors: A Patrol Division Detail at Multiple Locations Cites 11
POMONA – A Minor Decoy/Shoulder Tap Operation took place yesterday afternoon at various liquor and convenience stores throughout Pomona. From 11 AM to 4 PM, two underage minors (19 and 20) under direct officer supervision approached patrons to have alcohol bought for them.
Five patrons offered to make the purchase for the minors who’d mentioned being under the age of 21. Eleven adults were contacted. The minors waited outside.
Sergeant Jon Edson announced, “The (11) suspects were detained immediately after furnishing the alcohol, and after it was determined that they did not have any outstanding warrants, they were issued citations for furnishing alcohol to a minor, and released pending their court date.”
Sgt. Edson continued, “A concerned effort is being made to reduce the availability of alcohol to minors and Shoulder Tap Operations are a known method to reduce the availability of alcohol to minors.”
The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control’s Minor Decoy/ Shoulder Tap Grant Project is funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
