FOLSOM – A heightened awareness of ways to help prevent shootings on public school grounds includes a heightened response to threats made against schools. Any threat made, especially against a public school, is taken seriously, as is evidenced by a recent incident in Folsom.
The FPD became aware of a threat against Vista Del Lago High School via a text. The result was a temporary lockdown at the school as well as officers sent on site as a safety measure.
The suspect, 18-year-old Ryan Bernal, was not on campus at the time of the response but at a relative’s home. He was arrested for making criminal threats.
The FPD said, “This case is an important reminder that threats are taken seriously and investigated. These threats can result in arrest and prosecution. ” Sergeant Bill Bradshaw added, “The safety of our schools is our highest priority. We will continue to fully investigate any report of threats, and take appropriate action.”
