Sexual assault suspect appears in court after multiple charges of rape
SAN JOSE – The San Jose State University Police have reported the arrest of 21-year-old Luis Venegas as the alleged perpetrator of sexual assaults on multiple victims.
One female victim came forward on March 3, 2018 when Venegas attacked her near Campus Village A, located near San Fernando and E. San Salvador Street in San Jose.
The victims were assaulted near the student housing complex. The investigation linked Venegas to other sexual assaults. A complaint was filed with the District Attorney’s Office in order to serve a warrant for his arrest.
Venegas was arrested on March 5, 2018, and is facing multiple charges including sexual assault, assault with the intent to commit sex crimes, false imprisonment, and sexual battery. Venegas appeared in Courtroom 41 at the San Jose Hall of Justice appearing for a plea hearing on March 14, 2018, at 1:30PM. He is currently being held at the Milpitas Elmwood M-2 Barracks. Bail has been set at $210,000.
San Jose State University Police told KRON 4 NEWS, “Venegas and the victims knew each other.” Investigators are asking for the public’s help in coming forward with information that can help authorities contact potential witnesses and/or other victims assaulted by Venegas.
