LONG BEACH – Although he was only 20 years old at the time, Malcolm Smith began a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl at the school where he worked as the wide receiver football coach.
The relationship occurred from November of 2014 through August of 2015 while Smith was employed at Woodrow Wilson High School.
Then, in December of 2017 the girl told authorities about the relationship. An investigation ensued that resulted in Smith’s arrest on Wednesday.
The suspect was charged with ten felony counts of unlawful sexual intercourse and oral copulation. His bail was set at $230,000. He pleaded not guilty.
if convicted, Smith faces a maximum sentence of nine years in prison and a lifetime of sex offender registration.
