KEYES // Multiple police agencies are investigating an officer-involved shooting after a traffic stop went awry in the late evening hours of Thursday, March 15th.
At around 11 PM, a two-person CHP unit attempted a traffic enforcement stop along southbound Highway 99 near Keyes Road. Instead of stopping, the driver hit the gas and led officers on a pursuit, which was ultimately discontinued out of concern for public safety.
Shortly thereafter, the driver exited the freeway onto Keyes Road and ended up in a single-vehicle collision. As CHP began responding, one officer found himself involved in a shooting with an occupant of the vehicle.
One subject was ultimately taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries. No officers were injured.
Details remain under wraps as the investigation continues, with the Sheriff’s Department. CHP, and Stanislaus County DA’s Office jointly investigating.
