LOS ANGELES – Deputy District Attorney and Prosecutor Kelly Kelley announced yesterday’s seven-year state prison sentence of Yvonne Marie Pina (34) of Long Beach for stabbing her boyfriend to death nearly two years ago.
An argument lasting several days escalated on March 1, 2016 when Pina’s boyfriend, Aaron Flores (21) tried to leave the scene in the defendant’s car.
According to the prosecutor, “Unable to leave, Flores asked a neighbor to use the phone. Pina returned to her home to get a knife, then approached Flores, who was still with the neighbor outside, and stated ‘You want to hit me?’ Pina then stabbed Flores one time.”
The prosecutor continued, “Flores responded to Pina, ‘Look at me. What did you do to me?’ The defendant immediately tried to help Flores by driving him to the hospital where he later died.”
Police arrested Pina at the hospital in connection with the killing. Pina was jailed and the case was investigated by the Long Beach Police Department.
Prosecution reported that Pina pleaded no contest on February 14, 2018 to one count of voluntary manslaughter. The defendant also admitted an allegation that she personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon, a knife, during the commission of the crime.
