A would be hero turned out to be a villain on March 20, 2018. Nathan Flores of Madera rescued an abandoned puppy from the Fresno River in Madera.
Soon after, neighbors heard the puppy crying. When they checked to see what was causing the pup’s yelps, they saw Flores choking the little animal.
Witnesses recounted they then saw Flores holding the pup under running water, struggling to breathe or cry out.
Police arrived in time to save the puppy and 37-year old Flores was arrested and booked into Madera County Department of Corrections.
He is charged with cruelty to animals and awaits trial. A petition has been filed to revoke his probation as well. The puppy was initially placed at an animal shelter in Madera and while many showed interest in adoption the little guy, he is now with his original owners.
