SANTA ROSA // Police are investigating an incident of assault with a deadly weapon after responding to a shooting on Corby Avenue on March 24th.
At around 6 PM, officers were alerted to shots fired on the 2300 block of Corby Avenue and, shortly thereafter, a gunshot victim sitting in a car at the 7-Eleven on that same road. Responding officers spoke with the victim and provided medical care until EMS personnel arrived and took him to hospital.
As the investigation began to unfold, officers learned that several people in a vehicle had gotten into an argument with a group of people sitting in another vehicle near the 2300 block of Corby. At one point, someone drew a gun and shot one of the occupants in the other car. The victim immediately drove away and parked at the 7-Eleven, where officers found him.
Officers also spoke to two subjects at the scene — later identified as 20-year-old Miguel Angel Sanchez of Santa Rosa and 19-year-old Crystal Sanchez of Windsor. The two were ultimately arrested for their involvement in the incident and a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered.
On March 27th, detectives identified 19-year-old Thomas Martinez of Santa Rosa as the shooter. He is currently at large and considered armed and dangerous.
Though two arrests have been made and the shooter identified, the investigation remains active and Santa Rosa PD continues to pursue leads. Anyone with information relevant to the case is strongly encouraged to contact the Violent Crimes Investigation Team at (707) 543 – 3590.
