NEWHALL — While the menu at the Southern Smoke BBQ & Brewhouse is appealing to many tastes, it was in the news recently for another, unappealing reason.
50-year-old co-owner Sam Albert Gardian was sentenced on Tuesday to 90 days in jail for sexually assaulting a former employee. He had been found guilty of two misdemeanor counts of both battery and sexual battery.
The 20-year-old victim reported that the behavior had occurred between February and April of 2016. It included Gardian slapping her head, pinching her tongue and twice putting his hands down her pants.
For his part, Gardian was also sentenced to three years of probation, the completion of 26 anger management classes and a lifetime registration as a sex offender.
