SAN RAFAEL — Police officers were investigating a report of a prowler on March 26, when they located and arrested a wanted man suspected of child abuse, and for allegedly committing four burglaries over a period of four months.
An employee at a local business phoned police to report seeing a prowler at approximately 11:30 a.m. The prowler was seen on Las Gallinas Avenue, near the Northgate Shopping Center, and about half a mile away from the Mark Day School.
The caller reported seeing a man checking normally locked doors outside businesses on the 800 block of Las Gallinas Avenue.
Responding officers located Noberto Maldonado-Rodas, 22 of San Rafael, who was hiding behind landscaping bushes, near an office building located at 880 Las Gallinas Avenue.
The officers were aware that Maldonado-Rodas was already a suspect in a sexual abuse case involving a child, and they arrested him after conferring with San Rafael detectives.
Upon further investigation, Maldonado-Rodas was also identified as suspect in four commercial burglaries, which occurred between December 2017 and this month.
He was booked at Marin County Jail, where bail for his release was set at $310,000. A court hearing was scheduled for July.
Maldonado-Rodas is charged with committing forcible acts of sexual penetration with a foreign object on a minor and committing lewd acts with a child under the age of 14. He is also charged with committing four commercial burglaries and for allegedly bringing alcohol or narcotics into a jail or prison.
