CHICO // A 20-year-old Chico man has been arrested following a bizarre altercation with police that ended with his hospitalization.
On March 28th just after 9 PM, officers were sent to investigate reports of a suspicious person on the 1800 block of East 8th Street. The subject — later identified as 20-year-old Kai Perrelli — was reportedly behaving extremely erratically, screaming, and brandishing a knife.
When officers arrived, Perrelli began to run, then turned around and approached the officer, still holding the knife. The officer deployed his taser and successfully incapacitated Perrelli until additional units could arrive.
Once they did, however, Perrelli began violently resisting efforts to place him under arrest, going so far as to bite one of the officers. After fixing him with a full-body restraint, officers took him to hospital, where he was admitted out of concern for his health.
While little about his condition has been disclosed, Perrelli will reportedly be charged with brandishing a weapon to both a citizen and an officer, resisting arrest, assault on a peace officer, and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
