SHASTA LAKE – On Friday afternoon a deputy was on watch at the 4-way stop intersection of Virginia Ave. and Akrich St. While there, the deputy spotted a green ATV approach the intersection.
The quad runner made a right turn onto Aldrich without stopping, and the driver was not wearing a helmet.
The deputy gave chase in an effort to stop the ATV but its driver had other plans and sped away.
Near Akrich park the fleeing driver then went off road and the deputy was unable to continue the pursuit.
However, his colleague in the California Highway Patrol helicopter was able to maintain contact with the ATV’s location.
28-year-old Zachary McHargue was arrested in the back yard of a home at 3052 Virginia Ave. and was charged with “evading arrest, driving on a suspended license and several vehicle code violations.”
