Major Crimes Task Force’s Gang Force Sweep Apprehends Armed Parolee At Large
POMONA – A late Friday-night gang enforcement in the area of the 2100 block of Arroyo Ave. led to a series of unanticipated events for the PPD.
Members of the Pomona Police Major Crimes Task Force in conjunction with the California Department of Corrections (Parole) Officers were monitoring a global positioning device of a known Pomona gang member when they saw Joseph Hernandez (23) of Pomona walking away from a black Mercedes.
Recognizing Hernandez as a parolee at large, they detained and found him in possession of a loaded firearm.
While taking Hernandez into custody, officers located another suspect, Miguel Jimenez (19), of Pomona, sitting in the driver seat of the black Mercedes. Discovery found this car had been stolen during an armed robbery, and detained Jimenez as an armed robbery suspect.
Corporal J. Hernanzez of the Major Crimes Task Force announced, “The suspects attempted to flee on foot, however the Officers called the suspects by name and ordered them to stop. The suspects realized they were known to the Officers and decided to stop running. Officers detained the suspects where one suspect stated he was in possession of a loaded firearm. Officers recovered the stolen vehicle and a loaded firearm.”
The suspects were booked at Pomona City Jail for the following: 29800 (a)(1) PC- Felon possession of a firearm, Parole Violation, Felon possession of ammunition, Robbery (armed), Grand Theft Auto, Possession of stolen property, and Carrying a loaded firearm not registered.
Corporal Hernandez concluded, “The City of Pomona is dedicated to addressing quality of life issues and the safety of our community. ”
