SAN RAFAEL — A weekend shopping trip to the mall and lunch afterward were cut short, when two suspected shoplifters had a tussle with security staff before they were taken to jail.
Police were summoned on April 8 to the Kohl’s store located in Northgate Mall by security personnel, who reported having a physical altercation with two suspected shoplifters.
According to the police, security staff confronted the two suspects as they were leaving the store and a fight broke out between the shoppers and the security staff.
The suspected shoplifters fled from the store and drove away from the mall, but not before one of the suspects allegedly threatened to shoot the security personnel.
Security staff provided San Rafael police officers with a description of the two suspects along with a description of their vehicle.
Officers located the vehicle about 1.5 miles away at the McDonald’s restaurant at 190 Merrydale Road where the police interrupted their lunch break at about 2:30 p.m.
The suspects were detained for questioning and searched, as was their vehicle. Police recovered merchandise from Kohl’s, suspected burglary tools and brass knuckles.
Both individuals were booked in Marin County Jail and they remain in custody in lieu of $75,000 bond each.
