EMERYVILLE — Patrol officers spotted a suspicious man on April 16 sitting inside a ransacked truck parked outside a condominium building, and they arrested him on multiple charges after conducting a probationary search.
The officers were on a foot patrol April 16 on the 1200 block of 65th Street when they noticed someone sitting inside a truck in disarray shortly before 4 a.m. The officers spoke with the man and learned that the truck didn’t belong to him.
An identity check of the man indicated that he’s on supervised probation for a prior identity theft conviction. When the man was searched officers found in his possession checkbooks, credit cards and driver licenses belonging to several different people.
Officers contacted the owner the vehicle who told police that he didn’t know the man, and that the man didn’t have permission to be rooting inside his truck.
The officers immediately arrested the man identified as Alex J. Mills, a 23-year-old resident of Moraga, who as it turns out has a lengthy rap sheet.
Mills was arrested 10 times during 2017 for burglary, vehicle theft, possession of a controlled substance, possession of tear gas, and other offenses.
Following his most recent arrest, Mills was booked at the Santa Rita Jail, charged with carrying a concealed dagger, possession of burglary tools, petty theft, receiving stolen property, and first degree residential burglary.
Mills is being held in custody in lieu of $70,000 bail. An arraignment is scheduled for April 18 at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse.
