LONG BEACH – On December 26 2017 18-year-old Edward Cervantes got into a heated argument with the hosts of a home where he was staying in the 1300 block of East Ocean Boulevard.
In response, Cervantes killed the host’s yellow-headed amazon parrot, after which he was arrested for the deed.
On Thursday Cervantes pleaded no contest to one felony count of animal cruelty.
His sentence starts with five years of probation, 48 hours of animal cruelty class and 30 hours of Caltrans service.
In addition, he must either get a full-time job, be enrolled as a full-time student, or get a part-time job while going to school.
Finally, Cervantes is to stay away from the parrot’s owners for five years and pay them restitution of $3,272.
