BENICIA — Law enforcement officers from Contra Costa and Solano counties collaborated to identify, locate and arrest a man suspected of committing a double shooting last week.
Two persons, a 25-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were shot in the 1600 block of Bayview Circle in Benicia on April 24 at 10:20 p.m.
Responding Benicia police officers located both victims at the scene suffering from bullet wounds. Both were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment and they’re expected to recover, Benicia police said.
An investigation led to warrant being obtained to search a home in San Pablo on April 26, where officers located the suspect who attempted to flee while armed with a handgun, according to police.
San Pablo police, Benicia police and a Solano County SWAT team worked together to arrest the suspect, 21-year-old Ernesto R. Alejandre, at his residence in the 1300 block of Road 20 in San Pablo on April 26.
A loaded .45 caliber handgun was recovered from Alejandre when he was taken into custody. No injuries were reported in connection with his arrest.
During a search of his home, police located dozens of cannabis plants growing inside several rooms. Alejandre is suspected of operating an illegal growing operation, an allegation police are continuing to investigate.
Alejandre was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility where he was booked, charged with attempted murder, robbery and burglary. He remains in custody with bail set at $550,000.
