CHICO – Late on Friday night someone stole items from a vehicle and got away before officers arrived on scene on the 1000 block of Admiral Lane. A press release mentions that Mother’s Day gifts were among the items stolen.
Then, 90 minutes later, another call came in about a suspicious person taking a box off of a neighbor’s porch. This time officers saw and approached the suspect, who then ran off.
The 16-year-old was tripped up and tackled by officers. They noticed that he kept trying to reach into his pants. Once handcuffed, police pulled a loaded .40 caliber handgun out of the juvenile’s pocket.
The boy lived in the neighborhood and had recently been released from juvenile hall on probation, sporting an ankle bracelet.
He also had “narcotics and a large quantity of cash” on his possession.
The CHP reports that “Officers were able to return some of the missing Mother’s Day gifts.”
