EUREKA – In a sad incident in Eureka, a man shot and killed a woman and, later that night, himself. On the afternoon of Sunday May 6, a “shots fired” call came to the EPD from the 3300 block of H Street.
Officers responded and found one female with a gunshot wound and another female who was uninjured.
The uninjured female named 52-year-old Ronald Allen Crossland as the shooter who had fled in a black Honda Accord.
60-year-old Fortuna resident Sharral Lynne McDonald died from her gunshot wound.
Around 7:30 that evening the HCSO located the unoccupied black Honda Accord in the 2400 block of Fern Street in Cutten.
Then, while looking for Crossland around the 300 block of North Fortuna Boulevard, officers heard a gunshot and came upon Crossland dead from “what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
Although the three people in this incident all knew each other, Crossland’s motive for the shooting is unknown. The EPD says, “Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Detective Bise at (707) 441-4109.”
