WEST COVINA – A vehicle code violation traffic stop led to a seizure of 14 firearms and arrest of a convicted felon and gang member. West Covina PD officers stopped Andrew Jose Solis (28) of La Puente and discovered a rifle on the back seat. As a result, police netted a total seizure of 14 firearms.
A subsequent search revealed that the white 2017 Jeep Liberty harbored numerous firearms and ammunition. Authorities announced, “In total, 9 handguns and 5 assault rifles, including AR-15s and an AK-47, were found.”
The guns “represent one of the largest single gun seizures made during a traffic stop in the city. (We) believe that the suspect, a convicted felon and admitted street gang member, transported these weapons across state lines.”
Authorities arrested and booked Solis for possession of assault rifles and illegal possession of firearms. He was also charged as a convicted felon in possession of firearms. One other charge – possession of ammunition/criminal street gang activity landed a bail total of $75,000. The suspect bonded out on May 8th.
A press conference on Thursday released photos of the large gun seizure. The investigation is ongoing.
