FRESNO – A 35-year old man is in jail today for the murder of Anthony Felix Romero. Deputies headed to Duke and Holland Ave. in Tarpey Village around 4:30 PM on Saturday, May 26th on a disturbance call.
The report stated a possible stabbing victim onsite. Upon arriving deputies found a Fresno man, 23-year old Romero, bleeding from a stab wound. Although transported to the hospital, the vicitm died from his injuries.
The suspect, Eric Kenneth Smith, managed to flee the scene before deputies arrived. Witnesses gave police Smith’s description, along with the description of the car in which he drove away.
Helicopter EAGLE One deployed to assist in the location of Smith. Once Smith’s car was spotted driving near Ashland and Fowler Avenues, patrol units stopped and detained him.
Homicide detectives questioned Smith before arresting him. Investigators found Smith was visiting Romero’s girlfriend at a home in Tarpey village. When Romero arrived, a disagreement ensued between him and Smith. The argument turned violent which resulted in Smith stabbing Romero.
Smith remains at the Fresno County jail charged with murder. As of May 30th, Smith pled not guilty for the murder charge. His bail has been set at $1.025 million.
