Ventura County – An apparent murder and attempted suicide occurred just after midnight on May 28. Responding deputies came upon 27-year-old Thousand Oaks resident Bryn Spejcher, suffering from multiple stab wound injuries. The incident ended with the doctor charged with murder.
According to VCSD spokesman Captain Garo Kuredjian, the cops arrived in response to a 911 Emergency call. The call reported “a disturbance” involving what neighbors described as “blood-curdling screams.”
They found Spejcher seriously injured and 26-year-old Chad O’Melia on the floor, dead from “multiple sharp force injuries.” Spejcher was not a resident of the condominium unit, but she and O’Melia “had been in a dating relationship.” She was visiting him and his two male roommates at the time of the stabbing.
Spejcher is reportedly “a doctor of audiology” on staff at UCLA Health with an M.D. from the University of Washington. A medical examination at an area hospital determined that her injuries were self-inflicted following “an altercation” with O’Medlia.
Consequently, on June 1st deputies arrived to the hospital to take her into custody and place her under arrest.
As a result, Spejcher’s charges are felony murder with a special allegation of using a deadly weapon. She remains in custody with her bail set at $510,000.
