BRENTWOOD — A balmy evening of summer weather turned violent while children played at Veterans Park on Balfour Street. Police stopped about 50 brawling adults but could make only four arrests there on Saturday.
Family picnics and barbecues are a fine way to spend time outdoors, of course. But brawling in a public park in front of the children—no way.
It took cops from three towns and help from county deputies to restore order at the riotous gathering.
It began when one child playing at the park injured another child, and the adults began arguing about it. Next thing you know fists started flying and the hair-pulling began.
Someone called the police whilst everyone else stood by watching the mob fighting. Some individuals continued fighting even as police began arriving on the scene. It seemed implausible to arrest everyone.
Overwhelmed Brentwood officers called for assistance from their colleagues in Antioch and Oakley, and Contra County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
An officer shocked one particularly aggressive partygoer with a stun gun to finally subdue him. 20-year-old Freddie Davis of Antioch, went to a nearby hospital before authorities arrested him for fighting in public. His other charge is resisting arrest.
Oakland resident 27-year-old Sidney Jones got busted for fighting in public, resisting arrest, and probation violation involving his prior arrests for assault and battery.
23-year-old Jeanae Lomackpratt of Brentwood charges are fighting in public and resisting arrest.
The only person still in jail on Monday was 42-year-old Oakland resident Myesha Longabodike. Longabodike’s arrest was for assault and battery, in addition to fighting in public and resisting arrest. She remains in custody at the West County Detention Facility in lieu of $20,000 bond.
