PORTERVILLE – Early on the morning of June 10 the PPD experienced an incident with an assault on their K-9 officer.
The call came in about a “suspicious subject loitering at a business in the 900 block of West Morton Avenue.”
Officers encountered 29-year-old Lindsay resident Amulfo Castaneda, at another business. He stood in the 900 block of West Henderson Avenue. As officers questioned him, Castaneda tried to get in his vehicle and leave.
Castaneda continued to resist and attempt to leave. A deployed K-9 and a Taser proved ineffective in stopping the suspect, who began to drive off.
He drove “with the K-9 attached to him with the driver’s door open” and drove for 150 feet. He then crashed in the center median. The “K-9 let go and Castandeda then fled the scene.”
The K-9 suffered moderate injuries but has since this incident received treatment.
Officers then arrested Castaneda in the 2500 block of West Henderson Avenue. His charges are DUI, resisting arrest, assault on K-9 and hit and run.
