CHOWCHILLA – CPD announced the identities of two gang members arrested for a stabbing murder they committed.
Late Monday night, Leeshawn Sykes lay on the 1100 block of Humboldt Ave. in Chowchilla, stabbed in the lower right chest area. The Merced Sun-Star reports that “a fight broke out… over a woman he (Sykes) was in a relationship with.”
Police officers began administering first aid to the 39-year old Chowchilla resident while paramedics arrived.
Although responders transported Sykes to the Fresno Trauma Center, he unfortunately did not survive his injuries. At about 1:30 AM, officers then discovered Sykes had passed and then ruled his death a homicide.
The Madera Police Department Special Investigation Unit, Detectives of the Madera County Narcotics Enforcement Team, and the Chowchilla Police Department worked cohesively to conduct interviews and follow leads relayed to detectives by concerned citizens the morning after the murder.
Within 16 hours of Mr. Sykes death, investigators arrested one of the suspected murderers – 18-year old Michael Aquino from Madera. He is a known Norteño gang member who was on probation. Now, he has a murder charge and a $1 million bail.
Similarly, Law enforcement has now arrested a second suspect in the murder – 34-year old Anthony Simon of Chowchilla.
