SAN JOSE — SJPD arrested unregistered sex offender 34-year-old Tung Vo after a juvenile male reported the suspect lured him to his vehicle by asking him for help.
According to police it began on July 6 at approximately 1:17 PM. A 16-year-old male walked on the 1800 block of Cunningham Avenue. Then someone who he thought was a woman (Vo) asked for help.
The teen walked towards the door of Vo’s white 2000 Toyota van. Then the suspect pulled the young man into his van and began to sexually assault him.
Apparently the suspect intended to have un-consensual sex with the young male victim, and had targeted him due to his sexual preference.
SJPD Officer Gina Tepoorten said the San Jose Police Department’s Sexual Assault Investigation Unit arrested Vo for –
- Assault with Intent to Commit Rape (felony) – Penal Code 220(a) (1);
- False Imprisonment (felony) – Penal Code 236; and
- Kidnapping (felony) – Penal Code 207(a).
Vo is a registered sex offender with a previous conviction for sexual battery. During his release, he had failed to properly register as a sex offender. When an offender registers, anyone can find out whether or not a sexual offender lives in the area.
