Chainsaw Attack Suspect Attempted Murder of Wife in Front of Kids

WHITTIER – Officers responded to the scene of a domestic violence incident on July 11th near 3:00 pm. Reportedly, a woman splattered in blood suffered traumatic injuries from her husband’s chainsaw attack delivered in front of their three young sons.
Neighbors heard screaming, the sound of a chainsaw, then a bloodied woman run out screaming for 911 help on the 7700 block of Milton Avenue. Two of the three boys had blood on them.
The attacker had dropped the chainsaw, then fled in the family car before police arrived. Minutes later he crashed the car and stole a nearby vehicle.
Police issued the “Armed and Dangerous” alert, saying Alejandro Alvarez (32) “was last seen wearing a brown “Hurley” T-shirt and dark jeans. He is believed to be driving a stolen 2004 Mercury Mountaineer, SUV, 4-door, blue/tan in color with California license plate number 8ABD233.”
Subsequently, the manhunt was on. Nearly 24 hours later, Whittier announced, “On July 12, 2018, at approximately 2:00 pm, Whittier Police Detectives working in partnership with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and the Chula Vista Police Department located Alvarez. He was safely taken into custody from the 3100 block of Main St. in the City of Chula Vista.”
As a result, local law enforcement found him still in possession of the stolen vehicle. Booking charges include attempted murder, child endangerment, hit & run, and grand theft auto.
